What is an Enrolled Agent?

An Enrolled Agent is a tax professional who specializes in taxation. Enrolled Agents pass a rigorous test covering individual, business, estate and trust returns, as well as ethics, representation and tax law. They are licensed and regulated by the United States Treasury and can practice in all states preparing taxes and representing taxpayers who have problems with the IRS. Every year they are required to take at least 16 hours of continuing education, with a total of 72 hours over a three-calendar-year period. This assures that they will remain up-to-date with the ever-changing tax laws.
